From natural looks to retro, sultry eyeliner and pitch-perfect red lips, get ready to make a statement this autumn winter season. Check out these new trends and don’t be afraid to wear daring lipstick shades or dramatic eye makeup.
Draw your inspiration from these catwalk looks and give your makeup a wake up call. Whether you go for a classic, timeless look or for something bold and edgier, take a peek at these autumn winter makeup trends and devote a little time to experiment with some of the exciting glamtastic looks for the new season.
Seven key trends that may just deserve a very special place in your makeup bag this season!

Natural makeup
For autumn winter 2011 runways were awash with nude, flirty shades such as peach or beige. Radiant, flawless skin was spotted at Dolce & Gabbana and what can be more beautiful than a clean, healthy, fresh-looking skin? You can use nude makeup in order to enhance your natural beauty. Foundation, concealer, a touch of blush on the cheeks, and a sheer nude lipstick are the products you need for a hot natural makeup.

Soft blush
Oh-so-lovely cheekbones are so hot. For the season ahead, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs and Versace suggested a nude makeup with natural-looking flush. Think sculpted cheeks for an innocent, baby doll appearance! Use soft candy pink hues and dust some blush onto the apples of the cheeks or even lower as seen at Marc Jacobs.

Eyeliner
From eyes lined at the outer corners and thin winged lines to spectacular cat eyeliner undoubtedly adds a glossy, sultry flair. Simple and elegant sweeps of black liner were spotted at Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney, while more jaw-dropping approaches were seen at D&G and Anna Sui. Changing the eyeliner style is the easiest trick to spice up your look in a classic and timeless way.

Metallics
Don’t be afraid to try metallics for the eyes and get ready to make a striking impact. Chanel comes with a fearless, sophisticated combination of gray and black, while Christian Dior shows us how to rock boldly-coloured eyes and vampy lips in the same time. Even though emphasising both lips and eyes is a total no-no, you can actually pull off this look as seen at John Richmond. For daytime, opt for a gold or copper shadow as spotted at Chloe.

Orange eyeshadow
Orange is a universally flattering shade and it guarantees to draw the spotlight. Step into Autumn with a vibrant shade for the lids. Make your eyes stand out by applying an orange eyeshadow seen at Donna Karan and Kenzo, for a soft, warm glow. Team it with subtly red or pink lipstick in order to avoid an overwhelming effect.

Thick eyebrows
Thin must be a constant trend when it comes to your silhouette, but for your eyebrows thick is the key word. This season, your brows should have
a natural aspect as spotted at Alexander Wang, Oscar de la Renta and Jean Paul Gaultier. Get this look using an eyebrow pencil in a colour as close as the natural colour of hair and brows. Don’t forget to trim and groom eyebrow hairs so they beautifully enhance the structure of your face.

Bold lips
This season, vamp it up with a dramatic lip shade. We’ve seen a parade of glamorous, boldly coloured lips for stunning, wow-factor looks. From oranges and sexy reds to more autumnal shades like burgundy. You’ll definitely turn heads with fabulously daring lips. For the less adventurous you can pick stains instead of lipstick but remember to keep the rest of your makeup minimal.

And these beauties know exactly how to keep – the glow!

As our summer gently fades away and autumn seems fast approaching, how can we mere mortals keep a hold onto our sun-kissed glow and look fabulous through-out the change of season.

By choosing clever makeup shades we can channel the sunshine right back onto our skin. Creating a visual-effect which is both subtle and alluring and one that appears almost as if ‘lit-from-within’.

Regardless of your skin tone, adding a touch of gold will bring out the luminosity of your face, making your complexion radiate with warmth. The greatest advantage of a gold makeup is that it is universal, working well on all the skin tones and eye colours, whilst accentuating the most flattering assets of the face.

Gold makeup can look mysterious and breath-taking, it’s fab, fun and easy. . . pull off the look by following these simple guidelines. . .

FACE: To gently even out the skin tone apply an illuminising tinted moisturiser. Then add a touch of warmth to your complexion by taking a large powder brush and sweeping a sheer veil of a matte bronzer above your brow, around and under your cheek bones, finishing at your chin.

CHEEKS: Apply a deep matt Bronzing Powder to the hollow of the cheeks, brush a shimmer blush onto the apples of the cheeks in a bronze rose and apply a light golden shimmer cream or iridescent powder right above the hollows of the cheeks and down the bridge of the nose.

EYES: Golds come in endless shades from the lighter and sunnier tones to the brownish and copper ones. This allows you to juggle with different shades and to create an array of visual-effects. Shift your concentration to the inner corner of the eye to secure the ‘wow factor’. This will bring the focus and a sparkle to the eyes, and help to illuminate the centre of the face.

On the outer corners of the eyes, crease, and along the lower lash line apply a mid shade in a ‘Rose Gold Shimmer’ then to refine and shape the eye, blend a darker shade in ‘bronze, rust or copper’ from the outer corner of the eye, up to midline. The lighter and darker shades should blend seamlessly.

EYELINER: Line your upper lash line with the darkest brown or bronze eyeliner. Create a small delicate wing effect on the outer corner and smudge ( no hard lines here). To line the lower inside rim use a waterproof eyeliner with a light shimmer to help the look flow.

LASHES: Remember, to finish off and crown the look of your eyes, curl lashes using an eyelash curler before coating with lashings of mascara adding a rich texture with a big bold lash.

BROWS: Strong brows are back in a big way for Autumn winter so fill in sparse areas. To shape and define the brow use an angled brush with powder or apply soft strokes using a pencil, apply a wax to unruly brows and lock into place.

LIPS: Fill your lips with nude lip pencil. Apply satin lip gloss all over.

It’s no wonder that more and more women are turning towards natural and organic skin care and makeup products to full fill their beauty needs.

Red carpet regulars Rachel Weisz, Sarah Jessica Parker and Julianne Moore are just some of the Hollywood celebs who favour organic cosmetics to keep their skin looking radiant.

We all want to look beautiful, and now it’s easy to create high-fashion looks without compromising your health to do it. There are heaps of chic, eco-friendly brands now available offering gorgeous colours and silky textures which enable you to create looks as stylish and sophisticated as those achieved with traditional cosmetics.

Nature has created an abundance of breathtaking colours, and there are few things in life as varied as the pallet of colour on Earth. So whatever your mood, hippie chick, fashionista, hard-charging professional – you can too can create a great look that is both sexy and fun.

The benefits of going green – Nutrition for a radiantly beautiful complexion throughout the day.

1.Organic cosmetics are a lot better for your health, gentle on sensitive skin and on the health of the environment. Changing to a natural makeup containing natures own nourishing herbs and plant oils will free you from some of those harsh, synthetic chemicals and general nasty stuff that mainstream cosmetics companies put in their products. Leaving you with a beautiful healthy finish that is also cruelty free.

2.Packed with vitamins, essential oils, and natural minerals, they are rich in antioxidant to provide your skin with an anti-inflammatory effect to help even out skin tone allowing your skin to breathe, they will not clog your pores, cause breakouts or allergies.

3.Skin – Organic Foundations will contain ingredients like chamomile, rose absolute or jojoba oil to provide your skin with a full coverage finish. To achieve a glowing effect, choose products that contain natural illuminators called micas as these will reflect light and reduce the appearance of pores and wrinkles.

4.Eyes – Toxic chemicals such as mineral oil, petroleum, chemical colourings, or aluminium are often found in eye makeup. Organic brands use soothing ingredients such as Chamomile and Vitamins C, E and A. which are excellent for dry and sensitive skin.

5.Lashes – Mascara is really a beauty essential that every women should have, but continuous use of chemical mascaras may cause the eye lashes to become brittle. Organic based mascaras on the other hand will contain ingredients such as nettle, buckthorn and horsetail herb to nourish and condition the lashes to build a full dramatic look.

6.Lipstick – Most of us wear makeup every day, and the ingredients from each application can be absorbed into our skin. It is important to find a lipstick that is good enough to eat. Look for an organic lipstick with a castor oil base combined with soothing safflower beeswax and vitamin E for antioxidant and nourishing properties for smooth lips.

Tip: When switching to eco-friendly cosmetics, be sure to make an informed choice by checking the ingredient labels.

Shelf life: Organic cosmetics lack the preservatives that will outlast even you, this means that the shelf life of your organic makeup may be shorter than a more conventional one, and you may need to replace your organic products more often.

Wether you are hitting the beach, taking a cruise or just lounging poolside this summer, then how you look will be uppermost in your mind. As we get older we need to work just that little bit harder to achieve a radiant glow.

While you may want to camouflage signs of ageing, full-coverage foundation is not the way to go, Ideally, your makeup should allow your natural skin to shine through.

Our golden Hollywood girls, Helen Mirren and Dame Judi Dench continue to channel maturity with such grace, and you can too!

By updating your regular make-up routine with these simple make-up tips, you can ensue that you still look nifty after fifty. . . to infinity, and even beyond!

1.Look out for products that give you a dewy, moisturised complexion. Always prep with a moisturiser or choose a Primer that will minimise the appearance of fine lines and open or enlarged pores. Opt for an illuminating primer for your cheeks, forehead and the bridge of your nose. It’s youthful to have a little sheen!

2.If a product makes your skin look drier or more wrinkled, it’s not the right one for you. Always test foundation on your face before you buy, it can look great on the back of your hand but the texture and colour of your face are totally different. Only apply it where you need help, And on the days when you don’t want to wear too much make-up, opt for a sheer tinted moisturiser, you can always tackle capillaries or pigmentation with a concealer.

3.Blush is a brilliant way to lift the face, but too much colour, worn too low, can drag features southwards. Cheeks should be blushed with soft apricot, peach and rosy hues. To give a youthful appearance apply high on the cheekbone, above the apple, This also has the effect of brightening the eye area and will make your face look fresh and radiant.

4.Eyes appear to shrink as we get older and can become hooded with time. As you notice lines appearing around your eyes, stick to colours that are more sober and softer, while all together avoiding metallic and frosted makeup. Eyeliner is low-maintenance and high impact, making the eyes look full and wide open. Opt for a soft powder eyeliner and apply very close to and into the lash-line to give your eyes definition, but avoid very harsh colours.

5.Never skip curling your lashes. This allows more light to get to your eyes, making them look brighter and less droopy. If you have incredibly straight lashes and just can’t get a lift to hold when using eyelash curlers, an alternative solution could be the new eyelash perming procedure called LVL which incorporates dyeing the lashes too, fabulous for all year round.

6.Fill in sparse brows to make them more defined, it sets off your eyes, creating the illusion of lifting by drawing attention up instead of down. Don’t make your eyebrows too dark and don’t over-define them, the lighter and softer the better, switch to an ash brown, mink or grey.

7. Lips become thinner and drier with age. Dark lip liner and matte lipstick draw attention to the fine lines around your mouth. Choose a nourishing hydrating lip stick with a satiny finish or try a non-drying lip-gloss as gloss that will make the lips look fuller. Use a lip base or apply a nude/lip coloured lip pencil, this will stop the lip colour from feathering and help it stay on longer.

Block party – for the bold and the beautiful

The spring/summer 2011 campaigns were splashed with a whole spectrum of striking bright colours applied in very bold and eye-catching ways.

This season is all about strong lines, colour clashes and impact, so be brave, be bold, be outstanding throughout spring/summer time and forget the blending and get blocking.Embrace this trend and induldge in a spring fling by using multicoloured makeup to show off your playful and rebellious side.

The way to wear the look is actually very simple – splashes of bold colour either on the lips or the eyes.Base: natural and sunkissed. The skin is all about being fresh, natural and flawless, aim to even out your natural skin tone.
Stay away from heavy foundations as you won’t need them with this look. Apply a light sweep of bronzer over your forehead, cheeks and nose, the parts of your face that naturally become sun kissed. Finish with a sweep of coral pink or peach blusher, to create a healthy and fresh glow.

Eyes: bright blocked colour: Choose an eyeshadow that has a strong pigment to it. If you find it fading throughout the day then apply with a damp brush for a more intense effect. Alternative apply a white eyeshadow first to help the colour pop. Choose a bright bold Violet, green or a pale blue – these all feature heavily in this season’s colouring book.

Lips: bright and bold: Always define and line your natural lip shape before applying a strong pigmented lipstick. You don’t want this liner to be clearly visible as this isn’t part of this look but it will help you to achieve a clean shape to fill in. Alternatively you can use a lip pencil in a strong shade to line and fill your lips with a strong colour and then use a clear gloss to bring that colour to life. Experiment with combo’s like Coral and fuchsia, red and peach, plum and orange.

If you are not ready for such a bold makeup statement then try out the trend on your nails first. Paint your nails alternate colours, which is such a fun element to the look and a simple way to show that you are on-the ball when it comes to staying ahead.

It’s been a long, gray winter and time we started to inject some fun in to make-up shopping again and what better way to begin than to bath ourselves in the uplifting colour of pink!

Make-up is breaking all the rules and making such a big impact this spring, with bright full-on pink, almost red eyeshadow being just one of the many new make-up trends of this season. A very popular choice at the Dior, Valentino and Chanel spring summer shows. This look can be daring, but let’s be honest, it’s easy for a model to wear bright pink and still look gorgeous. But will the rest of us look a little crazy wearing fuchsia eye makeup?

The great thing about pink is that it’s both slightly edgy and slightly princess, so it looks good in many forms and on many different types of women. And depending on how it it is applied, it can definitely be uplifting, soft and beautiful.

The trick, is simply knowing which shade to choose and what other make-up to pair it with. Below are a some foolproof tips for wearing pink eyeshadow.

1. Choosing the right shade: The closer the eyeshadow colour veers towards a ruddy/red, the trickier it is to wear. If you are fair in skin tone then I would suggest using a pale, bluish-pink shadow. A vibrant flamingo pink for an olive complexion, and a warmer, more coral pink for darker skin, and the true hot pinks look especially gorgeous on a Latina complexion.

2. Full-on colour: Pink eyeshadow this season is meant to be daring, so wether it is day or night you can always ‘wing it’. Choose a strong pigmented shade of a matte pink eyeshadow and apply it in a block all-over your upper lids, but not above the crease. Then, by sweeping it out, past the outer corners of your eyes you can create a wing- like effect. Try applying the eyeshadow with a damp brush to perfect the shape and finish with lashings of mascara.

3. Impact with black: To accentuate the colour further you need to team it with a black eyeliner or, at the very least, a lot of black mascara, this is true of any bright coloured eyeshadow. The black anchors the look and defines your eyes so you’re not just seeing pink against bare skin, which can make you appear sickly, if black liner looks too heavy, you can pair it with a chocolate brown one instead. Warm up the cheeks, and keep the lips pale.

5. When in doubt, go sheer: If a heavily-pigmented shadow is too much colour for you, try dabbing a hot pink cream blush on your lids instead. The cream texture is less intense than a velvety powder and creates a fresher, more spring-like look. To prevent fading, prime your lids first, patting on the blush, then setting it with a dusting of translucent powder.

6. Pastel pink: Perhaps the easiest colour to apply, and also looks great on most skin tones. Just be sure to use a semi-transparent or sparkly pink, with a barely there pink hue. Extend the colour halfway up to the brow bone and wrap around to the outer corner of the eye, avoid any chalky and opaque pinks. Curl your lashes and keep your eyebrows brows groomed but soft.

Tip:
Regardless of which hue you pick, a bit of sparkly shimmer in your pink eyeshadow will help to make it obvious that your hue isn’t the result of a seasonal allergy or tired eyes!

Finding the time for self maintenance can be really challenging, especially when you are running around juggling your work, preparing meals, and carting the kids around!

Even famous mums don’t forgo makeup altogether, they just know how to use the basic essentials, cutting down on time by skipping extra steps and streamlining their routine.

Looking polished doesn’t need to take hours of our time. Play up your finest features and keep your beauty regime in check, look miraculously awake with these easy tips, leaving you looking fresh faced and ready to brace the day – mummy to scrummy in a matter of minutes!

1 Water This beauty tip requires no time at all, just a little discipline and remembering to keep that water bottle with you at all times! The many benefits of H20 include an overall glowing, nourished complexion, brighter eyes, better energy and a healthier you. Water naturally helps to flush away toxins, hydrates our bodies and decreases bloating and puffiness. For an extra benefit, add a squeeze of lemon to your water, a great way to start the day, it not only smells up-lifting, but it wakes up the liver, is high in vitamin C and a natural diuretic.

2 Self Tanner If you’re looking a bit pale and sallow, then why not treat yourself to a fake tan. It has to be said that most of us look better with a healthy glow. Nowadays most cosmetic companies feature moisturisers with a self-tanning component. It takes a few minutes to apply, and the result is a healthy, sun kissed look. Be on the lookout for the facial self tanners which add just a nice golden touch to your face. Go for a cream, apply every three to four days – and make sure you do it evenly and be sparing around the hairline and eye brow area, especially if you are fair in complexion.

3 Tinted Moisturiser This is indispensable! It adds moisture and evens skin tone in a few seconds.Use a combination moisturiser and sunscreen that comes in one easy product. It may be just springtime, but we all need to use sunscreen all year round. There are so many great moisturisers on the market today that have sunscreen built in and are not greasy. Make sure you allow your moisturiser a minute to soak in before applying the rest of your makeup.

4 Mineral make up Practically every makeup line now carries some form of mineral face powder. These are buffed on using a special fat brush, in quick swirling motions, starting at the nose and moving outwards toward the jaw. This leaves an even coverage to your face adding colour and balance without looking caky and it can take simply seconds to apply. Using mineral makeup will save you precious time as it works as concealer, foundation and powder that builds easily to provide an adjustable light to medium coverage to even out skin tone and hide blemishes that come with stress.

5 Cheeks Pack your makeup bag with products that promise some extra punch, Try a multitasking cream or stick that can be used for more than one purpose, like cheeks, lips and even eyes. Double-duty wonders are essential time savers for the working mum, who already has to much to carry in her bag.

6 Mascara All you need is a little mascara swept across your lashes and you are ready to roll. Apply two or three coats of mascara to give your eyes an instant pick-me-up if you don’t have time to apply shadow or liner. Just a few coats of mascara is all you really need to enhance your eyes.

7 Lips A little sheen goes a long way in keeping our lips moisturised, plump and looking fresh, so always find time to add some lustre and moisture to your lips!

Tip! Eyebrow Shaping – Make an appointment at your local beauty salon for an eyebrow shaping. Cleaning up the eyebrows can do wonders for the shape of your face, your eyes and makes a huge overall difference in your appearance. This beauty treatment is quick and also much less pricey than a facial or massage.
